Crossroads

What is Crossroads about?

Crossroads is a system for adventures in a fantasy setting.

The primary focus of the system is on making characters that aren’t constrained into preset classes, and are instead able to choose their abilities for themselves. Character progression is also intended to be less linear, with smaller progression in each area, and limited health pools.

The intention of the system is to have a system where combat is not the primary focus, but can still be fun and tactical. Conflict resolution is also more free-form and intuitive. Rather than having set skills to use as solutions for problems, Crossroads allows players to decide for themselves how they will try to solve a situation and what Statistic they will use.

Combat should be as simple or as complicated as desired. Encounters can be brief, with small health pools, or more lengthy, by adding additional mechanics beyond simply dealing damage. Opposed Rolls should ensure that the players always feel like they have agency and responsibility over results, while the Success system uses Compensating Failures and Partial Successes to ensure that players don’t feel useless even if they don't fully succeed.

The system is designed for more narrative play, with each player having their own goals and intentions, and hopefully should facilitate the telling of a story rather than feeling like just a game.
